The purpose of this paper is to find ways and solutions for increasing the efficiency of communication activities in the classroom, in particular speaking activities and explore the impact of extra-curricular activities (international projects) has on the development of speaking skills. The reason why I became interested in this specific aspect of teaching is that I have noticed that students tend to find speaking in class one of the most difficult experiences of language learning. Regardless of their general knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, most students will shy away from speaking in the classroom and avoid interaction in English. Nevertheless, speaking a foreign language has become a very important skill in today’s society.
