The present paper aims at raising both teachers` and pupils` awareness on the importance of efficient speaking in English, by means of understanding language mechanisms, its functions and particularities of register, according to various communicative situations. To be more specific, the main purpose consists of outlining the main differences as regards levels of formality in English, with a view to facilitating the secondary school pupils` access to communicative proficiency.
