The Literature of the Holocaust aims at disclosing how the Holocaust has influenced, informed and has been revealed through the literatury imagination. The problem for the writer who adopts the Holocaust as a domain for literatury scrutiny is in a sense, the reverse of the usual problem confronting the creator of imaginative literatury, who strives to imbue his work – whether or not based upon actual events – with sufficient fantasy to warrant that appelation. The Holocaust writer faces the difficulty of making a factual subject believable, of informing the actuality he describes with an aura of reality acceptable as such to his readers.
