A SURVEY OF THE NARRATOLOGICAL COMPONENTS OF SAMUEL BECKETT’S PROSE AND DRAMA. THEORETICAL ASPECTS, AUTOR ADRIANA TUDOSE

Samuel Beckett belongs to the Modernist period of creation. Although he is an Irish writer, he spent most of his life in France and all of his major works were originally written in French- a curious phenomenon since Beckett’s mother tongue was accepted as international language of the twentieth century. He is usually found among French writers in literary history in the twentieth century.
Many French writers of the post-war period came out of the Surrealist Movement or were strongly influenced by it. Post-war developments were found in all literature domains: poetry, fiction and theatre.
Modern poetry in France (as in other countries) became personal, obscure, and hard to understand. One consequence has been a decreasing number of those who read poetry.
In fiction, the term New Novel refers to a group of novels written in 1950s.
