The Bible, due to the spread of Christianity, has fundamentally defined the Western culture and history. There is no book, whose impact on art, including literature, could be compared to that of the Bible. The great English poet, William Blake, considers the Old and the New Testament “the great code of art”. The biblical themes, genres, stories, parables and symbols provide the most fundamental source of inspiration for artists and thinkers all over the Western world. Generally speaking, the Bible represents the main point of reference on the basis of which the Western man interprets himself and the world throughout the forthcoming centuries.
