The present study firstly reviews the literature on translation and subtitle translation, together with the programs necessary for the subtitle to be made. With Stonehenge Decoded as the video support, the subtitle for the documentary was achieved using Subtitle Workshop. It then presents the English script and its Romanian translation, the first stage in the subtitling process, including a detailed subdivision of the subtitles obtained into time frames, with filmic, linguistic and technical comments attached.
Translation for audiovisual material is a distinctive branch of translation studies, which was not long ago considered only a minority specialization, but which has almost become the norm today. It is helpful in understanding the nature of subtitle translation and accepting that, without it, our world would not only be completely different, but would function at low speed, with various negative implications, forefront among which would be the loss in intercultural communication and exchange.

The core of this present paper can be found in the last chapter in which a comparison is made between the classic and modern representations of the world of the gods. The old characteristics of the gods still represent them but they have also assimilated some new ones. They stopped using chariots, riding horses or flying sandals and they now drive convertible cars like Maserati Spyder or ride motorcycles. Even mythical monsters have evolved owning different businesses or shops. Medusa works at “Aunty Em” petrifying who ever visits and selling them as modern statues, while Procrustes works at “Crusty’s Water Bed Palace” where he stretches his customers.
Mythology has been used worldwide as a key element in numerous literary works, but its consistency has remained the same no matter the implications used by the author. Rick Riordan is one of those authors who use mythology but his work offers both classical and modern perspectives.
