The present paper was conceived as to give some interesting pieces of information which might prove that base altering processes are not so much taken into consideration by linguists, despite their great contribution to the enrichment of English vocabulary. As it was obvious from the paper many things regarding base altering processes are still confused and the example that I have in mind is that of terminology (the laborious debate on the difference between ‘corruption’ and ‘alteration’).
Paradoxically, while the theoretical field concerning the base altering processes is deficient the practical one is very prolific, because dictionaries are full of ‘altered’ words, which proves that English like other languages undergoes different kinds of linguistic influences. I might say that the presence of these ‘altered’ words in the dictionaries stands for the ‘identity card’ of base altering processes.
It is true that English was immeasurably enriched by the successive linguistic waves that invaded over the British Isles, but the English language today is rich and expressive not so much because new words were imposed on it as because they were welcomed.

Renunţarea la televiziune nu este un lucru uşor de realizat, căci imaginea video şi cea publicitară au instalat o adevărată dictatură în spaţiul public şi privat al societăţii. Îl împresoară pe omul modern din toate părţile, lăsându-i o libertate tot mai mică. Această lucrare mi-a fost inspirată de copiii care petrec cea mai mare parte a timpului lor liber în faţa televizorului, dar mai ales a calculatorului, hipnotizaţi de viteza uriaşă de schimbare a cadrelor, a cromaticii şi a efectelor tehnice. Odată cu apariţia televiziunilor comerciale avem de-a face cu un asalt al spoturilor publicitare, care mai de care mai variate. Copiii sunt fascinaţi de jocul imaginilor, de personajele care dau viaţă acestor spoturi, de coloana lor sonoră, devenind astfel mici „sclavi” ai televizorului, dar şi ai produselor şi comportamentelor prezentate în aceste reclame.

The field of linguistics and teaching in the 20th century is marked by the development of different foreign language teaching methods and approaches. Some have no or small following and others are widely used.
Although modern foreign language teaching has adopted completely new methods, the work of language professionals in the period between 1950 and 1980 contributed significantly to scientific views in the field of second language teaching and learning.
Even when methods are not frequently used or have fallen into obscurity, they may offer useful insights into the general teaching methodology. Surely, modern teaching is also based on the elements derived from these methods.
