In autofiction, the author may draw heavily from their own life experiences, using real events, people, and emotions as the basis for the narrative. However, they are not bound by strict adherence to factual accuracy. Instead, they may manipulate or embellish elements of the story, invent characters or situations, or alter the chronology of events to better serve the artistic or thematic goals of the work.
This blending of fact and fiction creates a narrative space where the boundaries between reality and imagination become fluid and ambiguous. Readers are often left to question the authenticity of the story and to ponder the relationship between the author’s lived experiences and the fictional world they have created. The result is a literary form that challenges traditional notions of truth and identity, inviting readers to engage with the text on multiple levels and to explore the complexities of human experience.
